The goal of our blog
The Crayon blog is a resource for marketing and competitive intelligence professionals to learn, discuss, and contribute to the CI community. As an industry, we are entering a new generation of competitive intelligence. Crayon is excited to be a leader in facilitating intelligent conversations and providing thought leadership to the marketing and CI community.
We are looking for contributions from experienced marketing leaders, intelligence professionals, and product marketers who can provide insight and expertise to our community.
By contributing to the Crayon blog, you are positioning yourself as a thought leader within our industry. Your content will reach your network as well as our network through email, social, and web traffic. It’s a great opportunity for us to feature and promote you, and vice versa.
What makes a good submission?
- All topics should be original, unique, informative, and have a key takeaway(s).
- All posts should be written for our target readership - CI Professionals, Product Marketers, and Marketing / Executive Leadership.
- The article should reflect the tone of the Crayon blog - informative but casual and easy to digest.
- All articles should be spell checked, fact-checked, and have proper links/citations.
- Not overly self-promotional of your own company (or promotional of Crayon).
- Familiarize yourself with the content we already have on our blog to ensure that we haven’t already covered your exact topic.
- Blog articles should be original content that has not appeared on any other publication. If you are interested in re-publishing content that you contribute to the Crayon blog, please reach out to us prior to content syndication
The general process
Send your idea(s) to conor@crayon.co. Conor will review your idea/draft and get back to you as soon as possible with feedback, edits, and next steps.
- If you are pitching a topic - Please also provide a brief summary and key point of your article. Conor will look it over, and if the topic is approved, he will discuss the timeline for deliverables such as full outline, draft(s), and estimated publish date.
- If you are submitting a draft, please include all required style and design attributes. Conor will respond with edits and feedback, as well as next steps.
There will be multiple rounds of edits to ensure that the content aligns with the Crayon blog and that all requirements regarding formatting, style, and grammar are met.
Please note: Due to the volume of requests, we cannot reply to every pitch.
Article format
- Length: Your article should be between 800 - 1,400 words.
- Format: Make the blog post easy to read by using subheadings, lists, bolding, blockquotes, etc.
- Images: Insert relevant images throughout your content - no more than one image per subsection. Please use original photos or photos that are explicitly free to use
- Links and Citations: Please use all relevant links within the copy, as well as list citations at the end of your document. Please don’t use more than two promotional links to your website within your copy.
- Call to Action: The Crayon team will insert a CTA.
- Meta Description: You can submit a meta description along with your post, otherwise the Crayon team will handle the meta description.

- Blog article should be a Word.doc or a Google Doc - if it is a Google Doc, please grant edit access to conor@crayon.co
- Images should be inserted in the copy as well as attached to submission in a Dropbox or Google Drive folder
- Blog article should be spell checked and edited, preferably with assistance from the Hemingway Editor or Grammarly
- Include a brief bio about yourself in your submission email for our About the Author section
